Earth Hour 2008

Global warming is real. Along with the participating US cities (Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix, San Francisco), the World Wildlife Fund and millions of people around the world, join Earth Hour on Saturday, March 29, 2008, from 8 to 9 p.m - to make a bold statement about climate change. For one hour, residents, businesses and organizations across the world are being asked to voluntarily turn off lights to reduce energy consumption. We want to raise awareness about climate change and demonstrate that the people of the world can make a difference in the fight against global warming.

It started on March 31, 2007 when 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney businesses turned off their lights for one hour - Earth Hour. With Sydney icons like the Harbour Bridge and Opera House turning their lights off, and unique events such as weddings by candlelight, the world took notice. Inspired by the collective effort of millions of Sydneysiders, many major global cities are joining Earth Hour in 2008, turning a symbolic event into a global movement.
