The Bulloch Family Ranch premiere is on tonight. This new show on UP deserves a look. If you’ve seen Friday Night Lights and The Blind Side, you’ll love getting a bird’s-eye look into the Bulloch Family Ranch. They are a real live family living in Florida and working with troubled teens. It’s a brand new reality TV show that promises to give your heart a tug.
I got a chance to talk with Rusty and Julie Bulloch this morning. Sixteen years ago Rusty and Julie began taking in troubled youth and mentoring them, ultimately turning around more than two dozen lives for the better, one at a time. Rusty says faith in God has played a huge role in their family’s life ministry. Julie explains that it began with a simple agreement to help a troubled teen and his mother in the late 1990s. She and Rusty did it quietly for many years in their small Florida community. Their success has turned into a reality TV show that both would have never dreamed of even 10 years ago.
The two plan to watch the premiere of the Bulloch Family Ranch at home with their extended family tonight. You can catch it on the Uplifting Television (UP) cable station which airs nationwide on various provider networks. Bulloch Family Ranch runs on Wednesday nights at 10 pm eastern time (9 pm central time).
I know I’m going to be doing the same with my kids. It’s good wholesome entertainment that will inspire you to reach out in your own community.
The scenes you see on the show are real. Julie says the situations aren’t staged. When the couple was approached by UP to do a show they agreed, mainly because they feel the station has the best interests of the kids at heart. The Bullochs are not about creating drama for entertainment. It’s important to Rusty and Julie that the show is real and uplifting. They hope to inspire average Americans to reach out in their own communities.
When I first heard about the show I thought it was about giving fostered teens a second chance. But Rusty and Julie explained what they do a little more clearly. The kids who come to the Bulloch Family Ranch are at least 18. Most of them come from single parent homes and are in contact regularly with their mothers.
Julie and Rusty are clear about their role in these kids’ lives. “We tell them that we are not their parents. They have parents and they need to love and respect them.” Some of these teens know their father and some don’t. Rusty and Julie Bulloch are there to mentor these kids and help get them on the right track. Julie says they have to want to improve their lives to get a spot on the Bulloch Family Ranch.
