Dercury Poison

The decades old firestorm debate over whether or not thimerosal in vaccines causes Autism got heated up last week when Jenny McCarthy made her accusation on the Oprah Winfrey Show. The U.S. Senate has just released a report after an 18-month long investigation of the FDA and CDC concerning thimerosal levels in pediatric vaccines and the rising rates of neurological disorders in U.S. children. Their verdict: the FDA is guilty of forcing parents to inoculate their children with hazardous amounts of poisonous mercury in the name of disease control. (more…)

Depression

A new study funded by the federal government and Pfizer shows that heavy warnings in 2003 about the possibility of antidepressants (SSRIs: Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, etc…) increasing suicidal behavior among teens coincides with an increase in suicides among adolescents between 2003-2004. The 2003 warnings may have had a ripple effect on adult drug treatment for depression as well, which have declined significantly according to a new report. This report, however, does not mention that there has been an increase in the use of antipsychotic drugs among the U.S. pediatric population.

Sleeping Child

Bed-wetting, or Nocturnal Enuresis, is a nuisance when parents are starting to potty train. But for many families this inconvenience stretches for many more years. As bed-wetting children age it becomes even more apparent to them that there is something wrong.

There is a shame that runs deep among those that grew up with plastic mattress covers and a second set of spare sheets already underneath them. It is a secret society of members that hold on to their anonymity for life. As adults they remember sleep over parties and vacations that were always wrought with anxiety. A bed-wetter knows when they to go to sleep that more than likely they will awaken hours later wet and embarrassed, and it is completely out of their control. Or is it?

Meat

The next time you trim the fat off of a steak or pour all the grease drippings out of your frying pan, consider the starving children in the third world who could actually use that fat to improve their brain power. We live in the same world, but Americans and our third world neighbors have two varying views on fat. Americans loath it. Fat keeps us from having washboard abs and enviable waistlines, but (more…)

Good Nutrition Lessens Susceptibility of Lead Poisoning

Poison

Families who continually eat healthy, well-balanced diets are clinically less susceptible to lead toxicity. This is a well recognized fact that has been documented throughout the 20th century, beginning as early as the 1920s [1].

In general, frequent eating causes less lead to be absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. When a person ingests lead with an empty stomach, however, it is absorbed at a much higher level. One study reported that lead on an empty stomach was 35% absorbed while 8.2% of lead ingested with food was absorbed
