This year for teacher appreciation day the kids and I decided to come up with an easy to make framed card. If you are looking for a teacher appreciation gift idea that’s inexpensive, thoughtful, and not very time consuming, check this out. It’s a simple hand with a catchy phrase written above it that says, “High Five to my Awesome Teacher”. If you want to make one yourself, and you need a hand, just download and copy mine.

High Five to my Awesome Teacher Card

To make this easy teacher appreciation gift idea, you can either use tempura paints to make an image of your child’s hand or just use my PDF download. I’ve left it blank on the master copy so that you and your child can fill it in. I asked each of my boys to tell me some of the traits about their teachers that they love. Each boy came up with some really neat and thoughtful words. I asked them to choose just 5 traits and we printed one on each of the five fingers. We also printed each teacher’s name, our school, and the year.

I chose to use my word processing software to fill in the lettering. I have a Mac and the Pages program does computer graphics quite nicely. But you can do this with a sharpie pen and a steady hand instead.

Each of my boys carefully signed the card after we printed them out.

Then I framed my teacher appreciation gift cards with simple glass covered black metal frames that I picked up for less than $10. Our school colors are red and black, so I chose to make my hand red and my lettering black and white.

This is my youngest guy holding his teacher appreciation card. My boys really loved how they turned out. Of course middle guy was disappointed that I didn’t let him use the software more. I think our next teacher appreciation gift might have to include some designing lessons on the Mac.

If you’d like to make yours in different colors, leave a comment for me. If there is enough interest in this project I can change the hand color and add a few more downloads.

If you choose to make a project similar to mine I would love to see how it turns out. It would make my day to know somebody liked this craft idea enough to try it themselves too.
