Who on earth is thinking about fasting on fat Tuesday? About a week ago we were contacted by Steve to review his new juicing book. Ironically he reached out just a couple of days after we saw Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead, a documentary film by Australian Joe Cross. The stars must have been aligned in a strange way last week. My husband and I were visited by a long time friend who was inspired by Joe’s story. He told us the story about Joe, an obese Australian that spent 60 days on a juice fast that took him clear across the United States. Of course Joe lost a ton of weight and put his autoimmune disease into remission. It was an awesome story. Our friend also told use his experiences with juicing. We were hooked on the idea, so my husband and I didn’t waste any time. Not long after he left we logged into our Amazon Prime Instant Video service. Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead was available. If you haven’t yet seen this award winning movie you must.

I’ll be Using Steve and Bo’s Juice Fasting Recipes for Lent
Every year we go on a strict low carb sugar free diet in our house during the lenten season. It’s a great way to put your body in better balance. And for the kids it makes that Easter basket extra special 40 days later.
This year I’d like to take lent one step further. Being mom to 4 busy kids is hectic. It’s hard to find down time, as most of you can relate. I’d like to have more time for prayer and reflection and I really feel that fasting could help me in my relationship with God. When I was a kid, I remember my father fasted for 40 days once. I was in awe that he had such will power. It really is all about exercising mind over matter. The whole point of lent is to deny yourself, to sacrifice the things you desire. This will hopefully help me gain better focus as a Christian. I want to get more in tune to God’s will, and less focused on the small stuff.
So you can imagine how excited I was to get Steve and Bo’s juice fasting recipes book to review and try. I already had the notion in my head and Joe Cross’s awesome life changing experiences fresh in my mind. I laughed when I saw the title of Steve and Bo’s book: The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Juice Fasting. Before the book arrived in the mail we had tried our hand at a few homemade juices. There’s definitely an art to juicing. Too many greens and you’ll get a bitter aftertaste in every sip. I learned that the hard way.
Now I don’t have a lot of weight to lose. In Joe Cross’s movie he talked about a 10 day juice fast for people like me. My aim is to juice fast 2 meals a day for 40 days. I suppose if it wasn’t lent I could juice fast 10 days and then go back to a normal diet. I plan to eat a breakfast and juice my lunch, snack, and dinner every day.
