What is Race to Nowhere? It is a documentary film that offers a scathing, and personal look at our public education system in America. The film’s length is 85 minutes and it is rated PG13.
The director and producer, Vicki Abeles, is a concerned mother who became a documentary filmmaker after her daughter became depressed from school pressures. In Race to Nowhere Abeles aims her camera at the high-stakes, high-pressure culture that has invaded our schools and our children’s lives.
Race to Nowhere points to the silent epidemic in our schools. The movie shows how cheating has become commonplace. Race to Nowhere shows students that are disengaged. The movie reveals stress-related illnesses and depression are rampant. The film also shows how many young people arrive at college and the workplace unprepared and uninspired.
Race to Nowhere is a call to action for families, educators, and policy makers. Race to Nowhere will challenge popular assumptions educators share on how to best prepare students.
