A GMO food labeling bill is scheduled to come to vote this coming February in Illinois. The Illinois Senate is coming to downtown Chicago on September 17 for a public debate and hearing on whether GMO foods should be labeled in IllinoisLawmakers are not certain Illinois residents really care about this issue. They have decided to hold a public hearing in downtown Chicago to find out how Illinois residents in the Chicago area feel about GMO foods.

Debate on Illinois GMO Food Labeling Bill Moves to Chicago

GMO food labeling in Illinois may soon be a reality. State Senator Dave Koehler introduced a GMO food labeling bill on February 14, 2013.

Many experts and volunteer groups are working hard to have these artificially engineered crops labeled on food products that line our grocery store shelves. They believe an increase in food allergies, autism, and cancer may be linked to changes in our food sources from GMO crops. They worry that these crops are causing damage to our ecosystem and need to be monitored through a GMO food labeling bill.

The hearing on the GMO food labeling bill will be held in the Bilandic Building at 160 N. LaSalle from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. All residents in the State of Illinois who feel strongly about GMO food labeling are encouraged to attend this hearing.

Expert witnesses will show debate the pros and cons of GMO food labeling. The results will help Illinois Senate decide our fate as consumers in Illinois.

If you believe you have the right to know what you are eating and feeding your family come to this public debate.  Illinois State Senators will be present to hear why they should vote yes on the GMO food labeling bill this February. Everyone present will have the opportunity to submit written testimony.
