On the eve of Brad Cohen’s December 7, 2008 debut CBS Hallmark Hall of Fame original movie about his life with Tourette Syndrome, I decided to purchase his 2005 book, co-written with Lisa Wysocky, entitled: Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher I Never Had to get a sneak peek into the wonderfully inspiring story. Folks that are not allergic or intolerant to corn haven’t got a clue as to why or how this grain is such a time-consuming nuisance for its avoiders. The growing minority of people afflicted and those that care for them are painfully aware every time they go to the store in search of a liquid soap, bottle of shampoo, piece of fresh fruit, bag of potato chips, or powder for their baby’s bum. We have our own mantra. We hum it while we shop, a Bruce Springsteen tune with our own lyrics:
Corn. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing….. I’ll say it again…..
But in the eyes of the rest of the world the answer is EVERYTHING, according to Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis’s new documentary (more…)

If you haven’t seen Disney’s summer sleeper yet, do make the effort before the school year officially begins. Ratatouille (2007)
is a cute movie about a rat named Remy who dreams of becoming a great French chef, despite his family’s constant discouragement. Little Remy, played by Patton Oswalt, takes us on a wild journey from the rooftop of a French cottage in the country all the way to Paris where he struggles to fulfill his culinary dreams while making friends and defying everyone’s wildest expectations. He cooks up a wonderful life for himself and those around him after learning ten simple life lessons. The Illinois Science Council and Chicago Department of Environment are presenting a FREE outdoor screening of the documentary film “An Inconvenient Truth
“ in Grant Park on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 as part of the ongoing conversation about what scientists can teach us about our planet.
Bring a blanket and bring friends to share the experience! The film will begin at sundown, approximately 8:15 p.m., in Grant Park’s Butler Field (Monroe Street & Lake Shore Drive) and runs 95 minutes. Electricity for the film will be through biodiesel fuel and solar power courtesy of Natural Source Energy Systems. A free bike valet will be available on Monroe Street at Lake Shore Drive courtesy of the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation and Chase Bank. For more information, click here.
