Know the Cause with Doug Kaufmann: interview with Caryn Talty (Healthy-Family.org)
In this interview I talked candidly with Doug Kaufmann about the recovery process we went through with my son after he was diagnosed with a chronic multifocal tic disorder in January of 2007. At the beginning of the interview Doug Kaufmann referred to my previous article The Corn We Eat is Infested with Mycotoxic Fungi.
My son eventually made a full recovery but the process was long and slow. We didn’t know the cause initially and spent quite a bit of money testing and trying various alternative treatments. They improved his condition but did not cure it. An allergy test we did that spring gave us something to go on and after nine months on the specific diet and supplement regime he really started to improve. The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy released two new studies to the public yesterday that have found mercury in common foods sweetened with high fructose corn syrup.
The report summarizes how this happens: “In making HFCS, caustic soda is used, among other things, to separate corn starch from the corn kernel. For decades, HFCS has been made using mercury-grade caustic soda produced in industrial chlorine (chlor-alkali) plants. The use of mercury cells to produce caustic soda can contaminate caustic soda, and ultimately HFCS, with mercury.”
According to Environmental Health:
Mercury was found in nearly 50% of tested samples of commercial high fructose corn syrup.” Ben Lilliston of The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) reports that in a followup study they detected mercury in “nearly one-third of 55 popular brand-name food and beverage products where HFCS is the first or second highest labeled ingredient– including products by Quaker, Hershey’s, Kraft, and Smucker.
In his report Lilliston claims that the average American consumes about 12 teaspoons per day of HFCS and some kids and teens can be consuming up to nearly 80% more than that. …read the rest of this entry »
Some reporters just don’t get it. Joel Stein is on that list. On Jan. 9th he posted a commentary at the L.A. Times that would make any parent of a child with allergies skin crawl. Perhaps he was trying to be funny.
It unnerves me that people with media power would abuse it such a reckless way. Folks may read Joel Stein’s piece and think it is perfectly okay to feed your child with allergies the forbidden food because the child’s problem is not his digestive system but a ‘yuppie rich phenomena” that his parents have bought into. …read the rest of this entry »
It grieves me to have to write this post. As an NIU grad who has spent 7 years in DeKalb, I was completely leveled by the Valentine’s Day Massacre as I watched it unfold live through my local television stations. Today the report has finally come out: the Prozac Nation can now add another school shooter to the list of SSRI patients turned psychotic. The news reports today say that in addition to Prozac, Stephen Kazmierczak had also been taking Ambien and Xanax. SSRI medications like Prozac have also been linked to several other school shooters.
In 2004 the FDA issued warnings saying that abruptly changing the dose of an anti-depressant (SSRI) drug, whether increasing or decreasing it, can produce hostility, psychosis, and/or suicide. There are over 10 million people on antidepressants in America. After all these years and all these shootings I continually ask myself when will the FDA step in and investigate the possible homicidal implications of improperly prescribing these dangerous drugs? …read the rest of this entry »
