Most Store Honey in the U.S. lacks Pollen and is sourced from China

Everywhere you turn these days it seems like more and more merchandise sold in the United States originates in China. According to Bryant Vaughn, professor of Anthropology at Texas A&M University, and top pollen expert, Americans can add one more thing to that list: honey. GM Beet seeds ruled illegal by Federal Judge

A U. S. District federal judge has revoked a previous government ruling in favor of genetically altered sugar beets until regulators thoroughly review the effects of GM crops on other foods. Judge Jeffrey S. White ruled that sugar beet growers cannot use the GM seeds from over 1 million acres of biotechnology beets that have been planted across the western half of the United States this year. These scientific seeds make up over 95% of the current sugar beet crop. The judges ruling will greatly disrupt sugar production as over 50% of sugar manufactured in this country come from sugar beets. …continue reading »

Overweight kids are 59% more likely to have food allergies than kids of normal weight.

Effects of childhood obesity and food allergies are widespread. Both childhood obesity and food allergies have become epidemics in the United States. Results from two separate studies show a probable cause. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey of 2005-2006 can positively connect food allergies as a possible direct effect of childhood obesity. A third separate study shows that bad microbes in the gut (dysbiosis) can cause obesity. These study findings may prove that a healthy gut flora is key to reducing both food allergies and childhood obesity. …continue reading »

Consumers will now be able to search by brand, product type, or specific food dye. Healthy-Family Celebrates a Successful First Year Online

Healthy-Family is celebrating our very first birthday this month. On July 1, 2007 we went on line with our first post, Attention and Behavior Problems can be Alleviated with Good Food and Supplements. Since that time we have provided over 135 posts from six different authors about varying topics such as eco living, parenting, health and nutrition, crafts, technology, education, and allergies. Over 118,000 folks have viewed our site and we have been privileged to have nearly 30 individuals subscribe to us as well.

As recently as January we launched our allergy specific forum, which now has 22 members and includes many free recipes within its pages. We hope to expand both the website and the forum in our second year and have plans for many more articles in the future. …continue reading »
