Families looking for creative ways to raise their children naturally in an artificial and chemically laden world may find some terrific resources at the Naturally Healthy Children’s Expo. The expo runs Friday through Sunday on the first weekend in October (5-7) at Chicago’s Navy Pier. Naturally Healthy Children’s Expo will feature renowned experts and interesting exhibits. Natural product vendors and service providers will host demonstrations on the exhibit floor. Visitors will also get the chance to watch live cooking shows performed by famous celebrity chefs.

Mary Beth Rebedeau, NHC staff member, understands that “Parents and caregivers – moms, dads, grandparents – are faced with an array of confusing choices” in today’s world. “Parents wonder about alternative/supplemental/natural treatments for childhood illnesses and disease,” she says. “They want to create a healthier home. They look for wholesome, positive family projects like recycling and organic gardening, and they want to know about alternatives to traditional energy for their homes and vehicles. How can families stay healthy with holistic medicine, yoga, and other exercises?” she added.

There will be four stages set up for visitors to learn about good nutrition, food preparation, health & wellness, and fitness. The following topics will be covered in a fun and entertaining way:

  1. Obtaining organic food free from artificial colors, dyes, preservatives, or processed sweeteners
  2. Benefiting from sustainable living practices
  3. Gardening organically, including natural lawn care and respect for wildlife
  4. Exercising through yoga, dance, and fun fitness for all ages
  5. Relaxing through massage, meditation, tai chi
  6. Nursing, fertility issues, and how to maintain a healthy pregnancy
  7. Cleansing products that are non-toxic and made without synthetic chemicals
  8. Building materials that are all natural and made without harmful chemicals
  9. Designing with feng shui
  10. Exploring alternative medicine for many childhood maladies including ADD and ADHD
  11. Conserving energy through solar power and hybrid cars
  12. Caring for our pets with holistic veterinary care
  13. Investing in a socially responsible way
  14. Caring for our teeth through holistic dentistry

On Friday October 5 the Expo will host “Field Trip Day.” Elementary students throughout the Chicago area will enjoy age-appropriate lessons and activities that teach about ecology, gardening, animal care, healthy eating, and overall wellness.

“Chicago is consistently rated as one of the greenest cities in the world,” says Rebedeau, “Due to extensive local media coverage, green issues are top of mind for many Chicagoland families, and so [NHC] looks forward to assembling hundreds of resources for these families at Navy Pier next October 5-7.”
